Lights, leather, luxurious silks and a dash of bold street style is how we would sum up this year’s De Montfort University Contour degree final year catwalk show in London. Opening to heavy electro beats, the dark runway was slowly illuminated model by model with blue LED embellished collection from Ashley Edge. A very strong start to the show!
And each collection maintained the high standard set throughout the entire event – the girls at Fox & Rose were duly inspired! Beautiful styling, original and provoking work from some of Europe’s hottest new talent were showcased in a praiseworthy catwalk show that didn’t disappoint.
Corsetry in all its forms featured heavily. Floral prints for a feminine look were chosen by Sarah Greenwood, in stark contrast to the vibrant zesty lemon and bright purples chosen by Kirsty Hall.
Jewell embellished necklines and leather detailing were also a feature. Particularly eye catching was Katy Burreddu’s work with wonderful pieces that floated down the runway.
Contrasting soft, flowing grey fabrics with an edgy street twist was Caroline Hesp – her designs bringing an eclectic mix to the show.
Swimwear also featured heavily this year and we were particularly taken aback with the truly stunning creations that were showcased. Wide brimmed sun hats teamed with matching oversized sunglasses finished off the look for Sarah Burgess, whose collection was a stunning ensemble of floral paneled one pieces and bikinis that we would snap up at Fox & Rose in an instant! Similarly bright and equally as eye catching was Claire Hatfield’s work which featured oversized frills, cut outs and leather strap detailing. Future swimwear stars in the making we think already presenting collections that would fit perfectly in a Miami showroom.
A surprise from Ella Chidgey with a new take on the sexy secretary look. In vibrant acqua and hot pink Ella showed an exciting mix of high waisted knickers, conical bra contouring and very edgy styling that wouldn’t have looked out of place on a Lady Gaga photoshoot for Vogue.
Below are a few Fox & Rose snaps from the show – we would like to extend a huge thank you to Gillian Proctor, Contour course Director at De Montfort University for the hard work she and her team puts in to make this an event of such high industry standards.
Fox & Rose is currently deliberating over the students’ work and will be announcing its 3 Young Designers of the Year very soon. It’s a tough call this year so watch this space!
